Edwin Jeans
Edwin jeans were established in Japan back in 1947 by a man named Mr. Tsunemi. Mr. Tsunemi had a passion for denim so he decided to import them directly from the United States as no denim was being manufactured in Japan at that time.
Four years later domestically manufactured denim had become available in Japan for the first time, but wasn't near the quality of American denim. This in turn led Mr. Tsumeni to create his own denim by paying close attention to his previous mistakes.
In 1961 Mr. Tsunemi crafted the first pair of Edwin denim jeans, and by 1963 Edwin had produced the world’s heaviest ringspun denim jean. This design featured the famous three-colour rainbow selvedge, which is still being used today.
From there the company has continued making high quality denim jeans. They were the first company in the world to develop ‘old wash’ style jeans to replicate denim which have been worn from its rigid, unwashed state. The company also invented ‘stone washing’ which revolutionized the entire denim industry. This was a turning point in the evolution of denim manufacturing which in turn influenced every denim company in existence today to immulate this design. The ‘new vintage’ look was another Edwin company original. This style was made to encompass the subtle beauty of hand replicating vintage washes.
